The Class 003 (formerly DRG Class 03) represents a significant era of German express steam power, specifically designed for the Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB) during Era IV. Originally developed as a lightweight alternative to the Class 01, these 4-6-2 ‘Pacific’ locomotives were engineered for mainlines with a maximum axle load of 18 tons, allowing them to service routes that the heavier Class 01 could not traverse.
