The locomotives, which could go up to a speed of 90 km\/h, were built based on the construction principle of standard steam locomotives, which facilitated the supply of spare parts. These locomotives were mainly operated on branch lines and for the transport of passenger trains or light goods trains.<br \/>\nAt the time computer numbers were introduced on 1st January 1968, there were still 52 locomotives in German Federal Railways fleet.
