Trix T21229 — Zugpackung Spalter 98 307
The Trix 21229 “Spalter” train set recreates the distinctive branch line atmosphere of the Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB) during the early 1950s (Era III). At the heart of this set is the class 98.3 tank locomotive, famously known as the “Glaskasten” (Glass Box) due to its expansive cab windows that offered the engineer panoramic visibility. Originally designated as the Bavarian PtL 2/2, these compact locomotives were engineered for one-man operation on light secondary lines, featuring a unique semi-automatic stoking system. This specific set represents the “Spalter Bockerl” service, which operated on the scenic branch line between Georgensgmünd and Spalt in Franconia, serving as a vital link for hop transport and local passenger transit.
This H0 scale model is constructed with a die-cast metal locomotive frame and body, powered by a high-performance motor with a flywheel for exceptional slow-speed stability. The locomotive is equipped with an mfx/DCC digital decoder featuring comprehensive sound functions, including authentic steam exhaust, whistle, and coal shoveling sounds. The set includes three detailed passenger cars—two 3rd class cars and one 2nd/3rd class car—all featuring factory-installed interior details and NEM 362 coupler pockets with close-coupling kinematics. Maintenance-free LED lighting provides directional headlamps on the locomotive, while the fine detailing of the valve gear and brake rigging meets the highest standards for collectors and layout operators alike.
